Step by step
1. Locate and expose the opening
The tank or D-box lid has to be found and dug down to. On properties where nobody knows where the components are, locating them is the first part of the work.
2. Measure the depth to grade
How far the lid sits below the surface determines the riser height, and whether one section or a stack is needed to reach grade cleanly.
3. Set the riser
The riser is lifted into place and leveled on the tank opening — this is where the excavator earns its keep, since concrete sections are not something you set by hand.
4. Seal and fit the lid
Joints are sealed and a secure lid goes on at the surface, so the opening keeps water and debris out and stays closed until someone deliberately opens it.
5. Backfill and finish to grade
Soil goes back and the area is graded around the new cover so the lid sits flush enough to live with, and you can find it instantly next time.

After that it's a permanent change: pumping, inspection, and D-box checks all start with lifting a lid. Will the riser stick up out of my lawn?
It's finished to grade, so the lid sits at the surface rather than standing proud of the yard. You'll know where it is — which is the point — but it's built to be lived with and mowed around.
Can a riser be added to an existing tank?
That's the usual case. Most risers we install go onto tanks that were buried years ago, once the opening has been located and exposed.
Is a riser safe with kids and pets in the yard?
The lid is secured at the surface rather than left loose. A secure cover is safer than the alternative some properties have — a cracked or partially collapsed buried lid nobody can see.
Does a riser save money?
It removes the locating and digging portion from every future service visit, and it makes inspections easy enough that they actually get done — which is where the real savings are, since caught-early problems are smaller than discovered-late ones.
Can I get a riser on the distribution box too?
Yes, and it's worth considering for the same reason. A D-box that can be opened easily is a D-box that gets checked.
